Churchers Uniting Against Abuse Capmaign
Bringing together churches and religious leaders from different denominations to unite against abuse and protecting the girl child from harmful religious and cultural practices
-To provide to the girl child and community at large as to where and how to access assistance when needed.
-To raise awareness on girl child rights and to place the church at the fore front of change and development.
-To increase access to justice both socially and legally for all survivors of rape.
-To appeal to all stakeholders, individuals, activists, academics, media and people who believe in human right, social justice and peace to be part of this campaign.
HOW THE OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED
-workshops with religious leaders from different denominations to sensitize them on abuse against girls
-awareness campaign with al relevant stakeholders such as police, government ministries, community members
-campaign march in a high density area for increased impact
-counselling services offered on the day of the march to people with cases of abuse
-uniting churches from different denominations for a common cause
-involvement of important stakeholders such as police, government ministries such as social welfare; health and child welfare; women and gender, members of the community
-use of social media including radio shows-involvement of schools
Over 500 people from all walks of life
-resources for the awareness campaign
-initial resistance from the church leaders
-further workshops need to be conducted with church leaders
-awareness campaigns need to be spread out to other areas resources permitting
-church leaders and traditional leaders need sensitization workshops to unite against abuse against girls
-involvement of the community is important as they are caregivers to girls
