Youth Colloquium to Protect Citizens' Voices

Youth Colloquium to Protect Citizens' Voices

In last year a number of free-thinkers, bloggers and writers was killed in Bangladesh and that trend was a matter of concern last for freedom of expression in Bangladesh. Besides, progressive politicians, intellectuals and journalists received death threats. According to the report The government tried to control the freedom of opinion through legal means, and showed a tendency to harass people through the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006 (amended in 2013), says the human rights report by Ain o Salish Kendra `The government tried to control the freedom of opinion through legal means, and showed a tendency to harass people through the Information and Communication Technology Act 2006'. Based on this situation Participatory Research Action Network- PRAN will arrange a Colloquium with where a good number of youths, journalist, free-thinkers, bloggers, academia, development activists and writers will present. Firstly, an informal meeting for the exchange of views will be organized, where scholars or other experts share and discuss a specific topic with stakeholders. Later, a youth group will organize a colorful bicycle rally in the city to sensitize the peoples towards a pluralistic society where civic space and responsive governance are ensured.

GDCA Rural Missionaries of the Philippines-Northern Mindanao Sub-Region (RMP-NMR) Inc, info@rmp-nmr.org

Human rights defenders working on land rights and organizations from various monocrop plantation-affected communities will set up a solidarity camp in the heart of Bukidnon Province—the plantation and land grabbing capital of the Philippines—on 14 May 2016.

We will celebrate civic space and the protest movement vis-à-vis the aggressive onslaught of corporate plantations encircling farming and indigenous communities and the accompanying militarization and suppression of dissent. Local singers and artists will be invited to perform in the camp, and cultural performances from plantation-affected communities will be showcased. A demonstration will be held at the end part of the program outside the camp.
