Crystal Chigbu, though her initiative Irede Foundation, provides prosthetic limbs for child amputees and helps in supporting their families.
She started this organization due to her personal experience with her daughter and has since become an activist for children born with a disability and provides resources to other amputees and their families, to be able to live their best life possible.
Each year she manages a walk for limbs to raise awareness and funds to facilitate her campaign.
They are focused on lending a hand and bringing hope to all children living with limb loss
(whether acquired or congenital).
HOW THE OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED
By organizing a walk called "Out on a limb" every year to raise awareness and help remove the stigma associated with talking about disabilities especially in Africa, and Nigeria specifically.
By organising media releases and conversations to raise awareness on the issues associated with amputations and societal acceptance/ support.
Annual Awareness Walk tagged “ Out on a limb” - targeted at driving for inclusion of, and accessibility for, amputees.
The Irede Foundation Charitable Awards (TIFCA) - targeted at raising funds for child amputees.
Been able to raise awareness on child amputees and raise funds for 28 prosthetic limbs for children who need it.
She has also worked with 60 families, supporting them through the changes they had to undergo during the process of amputation and rehabilitation.
